MELB11 | GP | Melbourne

Reference: MELB11

Location: Melbourne

Length of position: 18 months or longer (subject to change)

Consultant email: [email protected]

Our client runs a group of GP clinics across Melbourne and they are looking for several UK or Irish trained GPs. The vacancies are within non-DWS areas and they operate a scheme of 6 monthly rotations at each practice. This is allowed under the Medicare rules and so you get to work in the central / eastern areas of the city. The practices are busy, bulk-billing centres.

They are offering:

  • 65% of billings
  • $120 per hour guarantee for the first 3 months
  • minimum contract length of 18 months (N.B. This may change for applicants after August 31st 2018 to a longer period to accommodate the new RACGP registration system, which is due to come into force then)
  • Rota of full time work to include one evening per week to 8pm and one weekend day every 3 weeks
  • 8 practices – so up to 4 years, rotating through each one.

In addition to the city practices, they also have a couple of practices to the west of the city, which are in DWS areas and so can be permanent posts (or you can start in the city and then move out)

General Practice in Australia is very similar to the UK & Ireland in terms of clinical work.  The difference is how you get paid – on a fee-per service basis. See this link for more information: http://www.gpjobsinaustralia.co.uk/more-info/getting-paid/

I recently moved to Perth in Western Australia to start work as a General Practitioner. It was a daunting prospect initially, when searching for suitable posts, especially without having been to Australia before. The formal registration process appeared challenging and time-consuming to start with. However, during the process, I found Monique and Paul to be very supportive, providing reliable and accurate information when needed. I would highly recommend using their valuable insight to those contemplating the move in the near future.
