NEW “DWS” Areas

The new system of determining where GPs can work was launched on July 1st. Out goes the old system of District of Workforce Shortage. In comes a new “Distribution Priority Area”

The map is here: https://beta.health.gov.au/resources/apps-and-tools/health-workforce-locator/health-workforce-locator

Put in the location of interest or click “search the map”. Then tick the box for “distribution priority area” (DPA).

As expected the areas where GPs from overseas (ie UK & Irish trained GPs) can work has been pushed out from the city centres.

Having said that, there are still some vacancies relatively close to the main cities:
Adelaide: We have a vacancy in Golden Grove which should meet the requirements
Perth: Gosnells, south west of the CBD, is a DPA
Victoria: Geelong is a DPA. We are looking for vacancies there
Other areas in Victoria. We have a vacancy in Hamilton, to the west of Melbourne, which is DPA

First of all, let me thank you for the very kind and warm way of welcoming me at the interview. You have put a lot of energy in helping me with all aspects of my trip there and made me be at ease with the “solemnity” of this interview.
The hotel stay and the journey back were ok and rather uneventful.
Thank you for updating me on the process of getting a work permit since I am completely unfamiliar with it, but, I’m sure, for you it is a piece of cake so I rest assured that everything will work fine.
