DWS changes in February 2016

The DWS map changed in early February 2016 and has opened up some new areas for vacancies, while closing others down.

This has a direct impact on where you can work in Australia as the “DWS” or “non-DWS” status of a vacancy determines whether UK, Irish & NZ trained GPs can work there (there are some exceptions, covered in this article: here  Look under 19ab, DWS & non DWS)

Background:

DWS stands for District of Workforces Shortage and is mechanism used to allow overseas trained GPs (ie UK, Irish & NZ GPs) to work in certain areas only.  The map is available online here.  Select the DWS layer and then agree to the T&Cs. The either input an address or zoom in

The Changes:

Perth

  • No net changes

 Margaret River area

  • Entire area is now a DWS

 Adelaide

  • Elizabeth area – now NON DWS

 Melbourne

  • Melton – No longer DWS
  • Frankston-No longer DWS
  • Seaford No longer DWS
  • Carrum Downs no longer DWS
  • Tullamarine – no longer DWS
  • Gladstone Park – No longer DWS
  • Craigieburn -no longer DWS
  • Broadmeadows – no longer DWS
  • Coolaroo- no longer DWS
  • Morington now a DWS
  • Moutn Eliza – now a DWS
  • Mount Martha – now a DWS

 Sydney

  • Penrith now a DWS
  • Mount Druitt no longer a DWS
  • Camden – now a DWS

 Gold Coast

  • Labrador – no longer a DWS
  • Biggera Waters- no longer a DWS
  • Runaway Bay – No longer a DWS

Brisbane

  • Eight mile Plans is now a DWS
