“Thousands of doctors planning to leave the NHS to work abroad”

7th August 2014 | GP News

So says the headline in the Daily Telegraph on 28 July 2014. Originally penned by Pulse magazine, the article uses the number of Certificates of Good Standing issued by the GMC to back up its claim that significant numbers of doctors are planning to leave the UK for places such as Australia, Canada and New Zealand. We agree with the overall sentiment (and we are quoted within it, supporting the findings). While Australia is the number one choice for UK GPs looking to get away from the...

21st December 2013 | Why Australia?

An email from a doctor whom we helped get a new job in Melbourne: “Hi Paul, Thanks for your email. I’m sitting in my consulting room as I write this! All is going well. We have been here 6 weeks now and I started work last Monday. The staff are lovely and I’m enjoying it so far. It will take some time to get used to the Medicare system, but I am learning quickly! We moved to an apartment in Docklands 2 weeks ago, which is really well placed for work and enjoying the city. My...

GP Jobs Market in Australia

12th December 2013 | GP Job Updates

Here’s the December 2013 update on the jobs market in Australia. The main change this month is that parts of Sydney have become DWS again (District of Workforce Shortage). This has opened up a couple of new vacancies for us in north west Sydney (Mt Druitt and Blacktown). Both are busy areas in terms of patients and they look to be good areas to work in. This area is about 40 to 50 mins from Sydney CBD and it is also easy to get to the Blue Mountains national park. There are still quite...

How Technology is Changing General Practice in Australia

10th December 2013 | GP News

A recent article in the Herald Sun shows how new technology is making a big impact on the way GPs interact with their patients. “Dr Collins is stationed more than 1000 kilometres from his patient but he can get a blood pressure reading without laying a hand on the patient.” Using a video link and a portable machine owned by the patient he can measure blood glucose, pulse rate, body temperature, cholesterol and even get an ECG measurement. When he’s completed his diagnosis...

I recently moved to Perth in Western Australia to start work as a General Practitioner. It was a daunting prospect initially, when searching for suitable posts, especially without having been to Australia before. The formal registration process appeared challenging and time-consuming to start with. However, during the process, I found Monique and Paul to be very supportive, providing reliable and accurate information when needed. I would highly recommend using their valuable insight to those contemplating the move in the near future.
