This is a wonderful, relatively quiet, place to live. The wildlife is abundant (in lots of areas of Australia,  the wildlife has diminished significantly – not so on Tasmania. There is lots of unique flora and fauna, including the ferocious Tasmanian Devil). The weather is temperate with warm summers and cool, wet winters. Nearly 40% of the island is made up of nature parks and reserves.

The main city is Hobart, with a population of 220,000 (nearly half the total population)

Other areas are Launceston, 120 miles to the north and then Devonport and Burnie on the north west coast

Main industries are mining, farming and tourism
