Rouse Hill shopping centre

Rouse Hill

A suburb of Sydney, about 26 miles north west of the centre.

It has a recently developed ‘town centre’ – a  newly built mix of shopping, restaurants and streets. This is a link to their website: http://www.rhtc.com.au/

It’s in a modernist style with a central square a few street cafes and shops – all laid out on a grid pattern.

It’s a busy commuter town with quite a few restaurants (around 27), and a 9 screen cinema. There’s quite a long history associated with the area – the Rouse Hill House Farm, built in 1813 to 1818 by Irish convicts is a fine museum and one of the oldest houses in Australia

The area around Rouse Hill is called the Sydney Hills. Key area here is the upper valleys of the Hawkesbury river, a national park with 17 small towns and 5 rivers. Plenty of activities like walking, camping, canoeing and riding.

There’s a  bus service to central Sydney but no train yet (there is a plan to build a line but it won’t open for a few years). Road links are good though
