All three of these towns are in northern Queensland.

Mackay Old Town Hall
Mackay is big – about 86,000 people and on the coast. It’s a growth city with both tourism and mining industries. Plenty of good beaches and coral reefs (it’s next to the Whitsundays and the Great Barrier Reef). Lots of wild Australian bush inland – try the Eungella National Park
Decent airport with flights to the islands and to Brisbane & Sydney as well as Cairns.

Mount Isa
A mining community, west of Mackay / Townsville and south east of Darwin. It’s about 700 miles to the east coast and with a population of around 25,000. The river Leichhardt runs through the town towards the north coast

Tropic of Capricorn
Rockhampton
A city of around 80,000 on the Tropic of Capricorn, 400 miles north of Brisbane / 150 miles south of Mackay It’s about 25 miles from the sea and has good access to the Coral Sea coast with islands and reefs. As well as being a centre for farming it’s a tourist stop-off centre for those travelling the coast to the north. Good airport connections with Brisbane and Cairns, Sydney, Mackay and Townsville
