Coffs Harbour

This town is at the northern end of New South Wales, 270 miles south of Brisbane, 340 miles north of Sydney and 239 miles north of Newcastle. According to Wikipedia, the economy is based on farming (bananas in particular), tourism and manufacturing (general equipment for agriculture).

It is quite a large area, with a population (including the small towns around and about) of around 70,000, which rises to 100,000 in the tourist (summer season).  It’s a popular place and they are expecting it to grow as more people move from the big cities

There is a campus for the Southern Cross University as well as all the trappings of a city – shopping malls, a theatre, galleries, about 25 restaurants (including Thai, Indian, Chinese, Mexican and Italian –as well as seafood. Plus it has some pretty good beach areas, nature reserves and one or two islands to explore. All in all a nice place to be.

There is an airport with Quantas, Virgin and Brindabella Airlines.  There’s also a train line with services to Newcastle (and then to Sydney), or the other way, to  Brisbane
